Community Service
ADAMS is involved in many community service activities to help the less fortunate
and the environment.
ADAMS Community Service is led by ADAMS Community Service Committee, Muslim Sports
League(MSL), ADAMS youth, and ADAMS Members
1) Every Month ADAMS Members join FoodSource Foundation in food preparation for
the less fortunate
2) ADAMS is on the Board of Reston Interfaith Shelter
Jun 6. 2005 - The All Dulles Area Muslim Society(ADAMS) and Al-Fatih Academy supports
National Hunger Awareness Day. The ADAMS Community and Al-Faith Academy coordinated
a Canned Food Drive and will donate canned food to a local shelter. ADAMS Community
members and Al-Faith Academy students will also be participating in the “ Hunger
No More: An Interfaith Convocation†at Washington National Cathedral, on Monday,
June 6, 2005, 7:00 pm.
Sat May 21, 2005 The A-Team, a group of 15 Sisters from ADAMS Center, participated
in the Reston Relay for Life. The relay is sponsored by the American Cancer Society
to raise funds for research towards finding a cure for cancer. The day began at
10 am at South Lakes High School, setting up our campsite and pitching our tents.
The opening ceremonies began at 1pm. The relay began at 2 pm, with each team member
walking 45 minute shifts around the track. In the evening, the A-Team hosted a henna
table, and we raised $100 doing henna designs for Relay participants. The great
news is that the A-Team, through your support and generosity, raised over $4,170
for the American Cancer Society.
Nov 20-30, 2004 - ADAMS helped with a FAITH( www.faithus.org ) led effort to raise
money and buy over 240 coats for the Day Laborers and their families in Herndon.
The project was called "Warmth for the Winter" FAITH also organized a Thanksgiving
Dinner for the Day Laborers and their families.

Nov 14, 2004 - ADAMS and the DC Eid Committee collected Food for the Homeless at
the Eid Celebration and donated it to a Homeless Shelter
Oct/Nov 2004 - ADAMS MSL volunteers helped in feeding the homeless in Washington
DC.
Oct/Nov 2004 - ADAMS Daisy and Brownie Troops conducted a Baby Bundles project to
collect new items for babies to help 12 families in need
Oct/Nov 2004 - ADAMS MSL group coordinated an Eid Toy Drive to collect Toys for
children of families in need.
Oct 28, 2004 - ADAMS Members along with Food Source Foundation help prepare and
distribute meals among the homeless. The food preparation took place at the Fairfax
Presbyterian Church.
Oct 8, 2004 ADAMS and National Kidney Foundation offered Kidnet Risk Screening at
ADAMS
September 11, 2004 - The ADAMS community also participated in an Interfaith Housing
Project for the Homeless in Washington DC from 8am to 4:30pm.
September 5, 2004 - ADAMS encourages the community to donate to victims of Hurricane
Charley and Frances thru the American Red Cross
August 25, 2004 - Two Girl Scouts from ADAMS Center were chosen to represent the
Girl Scout Annual School Supplies Drive television promotions, in connection with
Channel 9 CBS (WUSA), Safeway, and SunTrust Bank! The girls arrived at SunTrust
HQ Branch in Washington, DC and taped two short 30 segments with Topper Shutt, the
CBS Meterologist.
August 21/22, 2004 - ADAMS Sponsors the HDCC Tennis Tournament benefiting the Charity
Organization Vecinos Unidos/United Neighbors, Inc . Vecinos Unidos/United Neighbors,
Inc . organization is dedicated to making the future brighter for Herndon children.
Their mission is to assist and support children who are targeted for failure in
our society. The approach chosen to accomplish this was to provide a safe and non-intimidating
community outreach office that offered walk-in homework assistance, computer resources

August 2004 - ADAMS MSL will be going down to the DC Central Kitchen. Our task is
to assist the kitchen with cooking food for about 20-30 local shelters that serve
around 500 - 1000 people. We'll be going on August 8 2004 from 9:00 AM to 12:00
PM. We have reserved space for 15 volounteers.

July 2004 - ADAMS MSL cooked and served dinner to 30 people at St. Timothy's Episcopal
Church in Reston, VA. They hold a program there called "Nurturing Parenting Program"
it's a FAITH based program and we have signed up to serve dinner and assist w/ baby
sitting for this weeks session.
June 2004 - ADAMS MSL helped renovate a shelter in Arlington. Our group was responsible
for renovating a kitchen and a bedroom in the shelter.
