ADAMS Interfaith Affiliations

Fairfax Faith Communities in Action—Interfaith organization that coordinates activities with people of faith regarding social service and community volunteerism. Established by Sharon Boulevard Supervisor, people from different churches, community of faith and other non-profit organizations. Share resources through training, facilities and programs of social services. ADAMS is Member of steering committee who established the structure and interviewed and hired the county employees working in the Interfaith Liaison Office. ADAMS Center participated in 3 annual conferences by donating money and food and assisted with the logistics and planning. A good network of faith communities, non-profit organizations and local officials. Serving currently as the chairperson of the Tolerance and Respect task force. The purpose of the committee is to promote dialog between faith communities in Fairfax County. Currently, there are 2 dialog groups, Mclean and Annandale. 2 successful intercommunity dialogs in Mclean and Annandale from which 2 committees have been established. The Tolerance committee will be meeting on April 15, 2004 at the ADAMS Center. This Fairfax Faith committee meets once monthly every second Wednesday of the month at 2pm. The task force meets monthly, plus the local dialog meetings.

Fairfax Youth Partnership Nonprofit organization in charge of youth programs and after-school activities. Their office is located in the Government Building in Fairfax County. Role: approve budgets, programs, member of committee (After-School Committee) which meets once a month.

Trialogue of Reston - Involves ADAMS Center, Northern VA Hebrew Congregation, and the Catholic Church in Reston. Once a year, a trialogue is held and requires three annual meetings for planning. The purpose is to improve the understanding of the three major religion’s values and beliefs as well as to promote tolerance between the three congregations. ADAMS Center hosted the last trialog about life after death. Planning of the trialog will be passed to the chairperson of the Interfaith committee.

George Mason University Campus Ministry - Provides guidance and helps students of different faiths on campus. This is a professional organization, run by Clergies. The representatives of the particular faith are liaisons between the students and the clergy. ADAMS Center is the sponsoring organization for the Muslim Campus Ministry. The Campus Ministry meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday at 1pm at GMU. The rest of that day is spent at the University to establish a better relationship with the University.

Interfaith of Burke Community - Burke Presbyterian Church, Adat Reyim Synagogue, and ADAMS Center are involved in many interfaith projects (Thanksgiving gathering, lecture the author Lauren Blumenfeld of the book “Revenge, A Story of Hope” and currently working on fundraising activity with the Jewish, Christian and Muslim Communities). On the 25th of April, there is an Interfaith concert scheduled, where Native Deen is to perform.
