Revival of the Heart Mondays, 7PM
One of the biggest struggles we all face while striving for Ihsan (excellence) is fighting our desires and ridding ourselves of bad habits. Many of us lose concentration in our prayers, think bad thoughts, have bad feelings towards others, and fall into various sins. While we focus much of our attention on legal rulings and ritual acts, we sometimes forget to assess the state of our own hearts. This halaqa is dedicated to helping us face those challenges to help purify our hearts and improve ourselves spiritually.
This halaqa will be centered around Imam Abu Hamid Al-Ghazalis text, the Ihya Uloom Iddin. The Iyha is considered to be one of the most scholarly works ever produced in the history of Islam. Written by Imam Al-Ghazali, given the title the Proof of Islam, this classical work is a marvel of spiritual insight and practical advice on strengthening ones relationship with Allah (SWT) and transforming the self. The book is broken up into four sections: Acts of Worhsip, Norms of Daily Life, The Ways to Perdition, and The Ways to Salvation.
Taught by Imam Mohamed Magid, this class is dedicated to helping our community connect to classical Islamic works, reviving the traditional methods of learning the religion, and reviving our spirits, and having a lasting impact on American society.
Currently, we are in the first quarter of the text that deals with acts of worship.

Everyday Living: the Basics of Fiqh Tuesdays, 7PM
The word Fiqh is an Arabic term meaning "deep understanding" or "full comprehension". In other context "knowledge of the rules of God which concern the actions of persons who own themselves bound to obey the law respecting what is required (wajib) forbidden (haraam) recommended (mandub) disapproved (makrooh) or merely permitted (mubah)".
The Qur'an commands believers to observe their five daily prayers (salat) and fast (sawm) during the month of Ramadan. The details about performing these duties can be found in the traditions of the Prophet (SAW). Thus the Quran and Sunnah are the basis for the Islamic Divine Law (Shariah). In some cases, the Muslim jurists (fuqaha) try to use analogy (Qiyas) and historical consensus of the scholars (Ijma) to derive Islamic rulings, grounded in the Quran and Sunnah. The conclusions arrived at constitute a wider array of laws than the Sharia constitutes of, and is called fiqh. In contrast to the Quran and Sunnah, fiqh is not regarded as sacred, and the schools of thought have differing views on some matters, but there is mutual respect in regards to the differences of opinions.
The class of Fiqh is concentrating on Hanafi school of thought which is one of the four sunni authentic school of thoughts. The class focuses on the five pillars of Islam based on the principles and rulings of Imam Abu Hanifa and numerous Hanafi jurists as documented in classical texts.
Class meets from 7PM every Tuesday with Sheikh Abdurafaa.

Prophetic Guidance Wednesdays, 7PM
The word seerah in Arabic literally means "manner of proceeding." Unlike other seerah classes that simply look at the life of the Prophet Muhammad (sall Allahu alayhi wasallam) from a historical perspective, these invigorating halaqas with Imam Mohamed Magid seek to teach us the lessons and character traits we can learn from the life of the Messenger of God and his companions. Imam Magid takes the students on a journey through the life and times of Rasulullah (sall Allahu alayhi wasallam) in order to give us proper context and perspective on the myriad of issues that we face in our daily lives.
By understanding the process by which the Prophet brought guidance to others, this class aims to teach us not only how to live our lives in today's society based upon the sunnah of our beloved Muhammad (sall Allahu alayhi wasallam), but also the various parts of our foundational learning as Muslims. To this end, this class will address issues such as proper Muslim creed (aqidah), basics of prayer and purification (salah and taharah), and the ways in which we can increase our spiritual connection to Allah in our lives (tazkiyah).
Various texts will be used in this class and we will recommend readings throughout the course. We highly encourage all students to read books on Seerah as a supplement to this course.

Journey Through the Quran Thursdays, 7PM
A brief study of the chapters of the Quran in the order they were revealed.
Ustaadh Abdurrafaa Ouertani takes us on a journey of the Glorious Quran, with the surahs in the order they were received by our beloved Prophet (saw), and as they were first heard and understood by others. It is an extraordinary way of following the life of our beloved Prophet (saw), while marveling at the elegance and power of the Majestic Quran, and the charm and strength of our beautiful faith!
Each class takes a handful of verses, and describes the historical background and context in which they were revealed, outlines the concepts conveyed in the surah and its ayahs, spotlights the style of phrasing and choice of words, and provides fascinating insights into the Magnificent Book, and the sweet humanness of our brave Prophet (saw)! It is a wonderful opportunity for the rest of us to gleam from those further along in their study of the Noble Quran. Audience participation is highly encouraged.
Insha'Allah, the class is held every Thursday in the 3rd floor prayer area at 7PM.

Oceans of Knowledge Fridays, 7PM
"Say: If the ocean were ink (wherewith to write out) the words of my Lord, sooner would the ocean be exhausted then would the words of my Lord, even if we added another ocean like it for its aid" Surah Kahf, Ayah 109.
The Quran is like the ocean. It holds knowledge beyond what the eye can see, encompasses more than what the mind can comprehend, yet the power of each wave can be felt deep within the heart.
Each Friday evening Imam Magid discusses the beautiful verses of the Holy Quran. Chapter by chapter, students are guided through an in depth understanding of the Divine Text. Students learn how to grasp the meaning of the Quran through the very texts that are already a part of our everyday lives, the Quran and the Sunnah.
Imam Magid also touches on the linguistical mircles of the Quran and empowers students to use their knowledge of the Arabic language to further appreciate its greatness. This halaqah includes audio visual presentation and handouts for the benifit of the students.
Currently, Imam Magid is covering the Tafseer of Surah Al-'Ala.
