In the Name of God, The Compassionate, The Merciful
All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS)

The All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) is deeply saddened by recent attacks on Shia Muslims across Pakistan.   We are particularly disturbed to have seen the twin bombings, claimed by a militant group, on Thursday January 10, 2013 that targeted Shias in Quetta, capital of Baluchistan province, and which killed at least 120 people.

We condemn violent extremism, maliciously perpetrated and conducted in the name of religion, anywhere in the world and against any minority group.  We support the calls for better protection of these and all other minorities from local extremists.

ADAMS is absolutely committed to the protection of all citizens anywhere in the world, by continuing to support actions to counter terrorism and radicalization everywhere.  We are very distressed to see sectarian killings rising in Pakistan even as deaths from other militant violence have dropped, and to know that more than 400 Shia Pakistanis were killed in sectarian attacks last year.  The ADAMS community is also greatly troubled by continuing reports of health care workers there being attacked and murdered by those who oppose a vaccination program.

These deaths underscore the American Muslim community’s rejection of terrorism and radicalization as a distortion of Islam and its teachings of moderation, reason and compassion.  ADAMS firmly reiterates its unswerving stance that those who carry out and incite acts of terror, murder and cruelty in the name of Islam not only destroy innocent lives, but also betray the values of the very faith they claim to represent.  ADAMS deplores attacks on any minority, and takes great pride in our long-standing efforts to promote interfaith understanding and harmony.

As we have consistently said, no injustice can ever justify the killing of innocent people, and no act of terror can ever serve any cause in Islam.  We repudiate and dissociate ourselves from any group or individual who commits or incites brutal and un-Islamic behavior, and we pray for God's mercy on the victims of these atrocities, and for God's help in stopping all such hateful acts.
