Luminaries: Stories of Faith, Knowledge, and Devotion Across Centuries
Program Description:
Across the centuries, remarkable men and women have illuminated the path of Islam through their scholarship, character, and devotion. This multi-part series begins with Part 1, a five-session arc designed to ground participants in the foundations of our legal and scholarly tradition. We begin with an introductory session on the Four Sunni Schools of Jurisprudence — how they developed, why differences emerged, and the shared principles that unite them.
We then explore the lives and legacies of the Imams of the four Sunni schools — Imām Abū Ḥanīfa, Imām Mālik ibn Anas, Imām al-Shāfiʿī, and Imām Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal — through sessions dedicated to their scholarship, character, and enduring influence. Each gathering invites participants to rediscover the beauty, depth, and cohesion of our shared tradition.
Note on Number of Sessions & Holiday Schedule:
Please note that our program will pause for the Thanksgiving holiday and resume afterward. We will also take a break for New Year’s.
No sessions will be held during these periods.
The total number of sessions may be adjusted if needed.
*This will be an ongoing multi-part series. Part 2, featuring additional scholars and spiritual exemplars — including Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawzīyah, Imām Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq, Sayyidah Nafīsa, Sayyidah Sukayna, and others — will begin after Ramadan.
