Conversations about spirituality and mental health have become increasingly common. Yet from an Islamic perspective, were they ever truly separate? Does the modern language of mental health fully capture what it means to flourish as a human being?

Join Dr. Abdallah Rothman for a thought-provoking conversation exploring how the Islamic understanding of the soul reframes our ideas of suffering, healing, and human development. Rather than viewing spirituality as one component of psychological well-being, this discussion will examine how Islam offers an integrated vision of the human being in which the heart, mind, body, soul, and our life in community are inseparable.

Together, we’ll explore the Islamic path of human development: how presence is cultivated amid distraction, how suffering can become a catalyst for transformation, and how healing unfolds not only within the individual but through relationships, families, and communities grounded in mercy, responsibility, and remembrance of Allah.

Drawing from both the Islamic spiritual tradition and contemporary psychology, we will reflect with Dr. Rothman on what it means to flourish, not merely by reducing distress, but by cultivating a life of inner coherence, meaningful connection, and purpose in this world while remaining oriented toward the next.

The program will be moderated by Imam Hicham Hall, Community Imam at ADAMS Center. This informal conversation will include ample opportunity for audience questions and discussion.
