This is a great opportunity to connect, learn, and grow in faith with fellow brothers. Don’t miss out!
This Ramadan, we are raising funds to create food baskets for our brothers and sisters in need within our communities. As we approach this blessed month, Sukoon Circle and Adams Youth are partnering with Nova Raft, Fresh Start Refugee, and Islamic Relief to provide essential supplies to 140 families in Alexandria, VA, where a large Afghan refugee population resides.
Your contributions will directly help feed these families during Ramadan, a time when food insecurity is especially high. Each package will include rice, dates, flour, vegetable oil, salt, beans, and more to support them throughout the month. Your donation will aid in enhancing the Islamic Relief food kits with the addition of meat!
Giving in charity, especially during Ramadan, holds immense reward. Zakah and Sadaqah purify our wealth and serve as a means of helping those who are struggling. The Prophet ﷺ reminded us that charity does not decrease wealth, but rather increases it in blessings. Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that sprouts seven ears; in every ear there are a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [the reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing and Knowing.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:261)
In addition to donations, there will be various volunteer opportunities, including making cards for families, unloading boxes, and assisting with distribution. Please consider donating and supporting those who are less fortunate.
May Allah bless you all in this world and the next. Jazakum Allahu Khayran.
Important: Please only sign up to volunteer if you are 100% certain you can commit, as we rely on our volunteers to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
“If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” -Malcolm X
And if you’re not careful, you’ll miss out when Lattes and Lit returns on Wednesday, January 29 with our newest book: The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Meeting biweekly at the new time of 6:30 and featuring commentary from Imam Abdul Malik Merchant, discuss with fellow readers the themes of truth, power, control, and racism pulled from the lessons of history as we “explore how the stories we tell—and the ones we don’t—shape our realities.”
Registration is free but donations are encouraged to help fund future events! Participants should bring their own copies of the book and read Chapters I and II by the first meeting. See you there inshallah! Open to participants 18+
January 29 – Chapters I and II
February 12 – Chapter III
February 26 – Chapter IV
In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Ta-Nehisi Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind. Then he takes readers along with him to Columbia, South Carolina, where he reports on his own book’s banning, but also explores the larger backlash to the nation’s recent reckoning with history and the deeply rooted American mythology so visible in that city—a capital of the Confederacy with statues of segregationists looming over its public squares. Finally, in the book’s longest section, Coates travels to Palestine, where he sees with devastating clarity how easily we are misled by nationalist narratives, and the tragedy that lies in the clash between the stories we tell and the reality of life on the ground.
Written at a dramatic moment in American and global life, this work from one of the country’s most important writers is about the urgent need to untangle ourselves from the destructive myths that shape our world—and our own souls—and embrace the liberating power of even the most difficult truths.
Join us for a special pre-Ramadan speakers panel designed to ignite excitement and spiritual preparation for the holy month. Our esteemed speakers will delve into the significance, meaning, and purpose of Ramadan, sharing practical tips on how to make the most of this sacred time and deepen your spiritual growth. This year’s theme, Rooted Together, invites us to reflect on the strength of our collective faith and unity during Ramadan. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to set the tone for a blessed month ahead—together, as one community.
The event will also feature an expo from ADAMS Education.
