The Fiqh of Prayer & Purification and the Inner Dimensions of Worship
Location: ADAMS Sully
Day: Wednesday
Time: After Maghrib (will adjust with prayer times)
Instructor: Imam Kebba Sallah
Starting Date: October 15
Duration: Approximately 15–18 weeks (aiming to finish before Ramadan – may be modified as needed)
Course Description: Many Muslims have never formally studied the fiqh of Taharah (purification) and Salah (prayer), even though these are personal obligations (Fard ‘Ayn) for every practicing Muslim. This class is designed to fill that gap. Students will gain a solid understanding of the essential rulings, building confidence that their purification and prayer are ritually sound. By studying fiqh systematically, participants can avoid doubt, speculation, constant reliance on online rulings, or getting drawn into disputes over differences of opinion. This knowledge is indispensable for every practicing Muslim.
Beyond formal rules, prayer is ultimately about the heart. Even a legally valid prayer can fall short if it lacks presence, humility, and mindfulness. This class will also explore the inner dimensions of worship, drawing on Imam Ghazali’s teachings, to help students cultivate God-consciousness, reverence, and spiritual focus in every prayer.
Qurtuba Community Education: This class is part of our Foundations Curriculum, designed to build religious literacy in the community. The course is completely free, but registration is required. Your support and donations allow us to continue offering these programs.
Note on Madhhab: The class is based on Maliki fiqh, reflecting the instructor’s background. For students who have not previously studied a madhhab, the priority is to gain a solid foundation in one recognized Sunni school, rather than becoming concerned about which school to follow. We will strive to offer this course based on other madhāhib in the future.
